• Progress on renovations to Costa Mesa's beloved TeWinkle Park lakes (ocregister.com) — Renovations at Costa Mesa’s TeWinkle Park lakes have hit a key milestone, with the upper lake now refilled and wildlife relocated there while work begins on the lower lake. The $2.5 million project, funded by city and state dollars, will stop costly leaks, rebuild the shoreline, and create a healthier habitat for turtles, fish, and other aquatic life by late summer.

• Man accused in 2003 killing in Costa Mesa arrested (latimes.com subscription) — A long-sought suspect in a 2003 Westside Costa Mesa alley killing has finally been taken into custody, with prosecutors now charging him with murder. The case, once the city’s first homicide of that year, involved two acquaintances and was not believed gang-related. Details of the recent arrest remain sealed, and a missed arraignment has pushed the next court date to September 11.
