• Drewery, John Franklin (nrvnews.com) — Covina readers are noting the recent passing of longtime California resident John Franklin Drewery, who died in Covina on April 28 at age 81. His life journey spanned Virginia, Alabama, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles, where he worked in law enforcement, real estate, and campus security, and was active as a Master Mason. Family and friends will honor him at a June 3 memorial in Blacksburg, Virginia. 
• SGV athletes bring home titles from CIF-SS track and field finals (sgvtribune.com) — San Gabriel Valley track and field athletes delivered big performances at the CIF-SS championships, including Covina’s own Sofia Jara, who took third in the Division 3 triple jump and fifth in the long jump. The meet in Moorpark produced multiple local champions and podium finishes, and division winners plus top marks now advance to next week’s Masters meet, with state berths on the line.
