Culver City Players Fall at Ojai Tennis Tournament

Dominguez reaches the second round, Licona loses in the first round of CIF doubles division.

The 111th Ojai Valley Tennis Tournament began on Thursday in Ventura County and two  residents were in action in the high school (CIF) division. 

In the CIF doubles division, Culver City's , who plays for Palisades High, paired with Spencer Pekar to take on Brentwood School's Adam Schwartz and Victor Vu in the first round of the 64-team draw at . Despite strong play by Licona, the Dolphins' duo lost 6-4, 7-5.  

, who lives in Culver City but attends Los Angeles' Loyola High, partnered with Cubs teammate Ian Ross in the bottom half of the draw. The duo faced Sam Frey and Andrew Greenfield of Redlands in the first round at  and won, 6-0, 6-4.

In the second round, Dominguez and Ross took on Kona Luu and Stefan Menichella of Irvine University and lost, 6-0, 6-1. 

In the men's Open singles division, Culver City's lost in the first round of qualifying Tuesday to Horval Valentin of Henderson, Nevada, 6-1, 6-4.
