Heads Up, Rain Expected For Culver City Friday

LOS ANGELES, CA -- A brief bout of rainfall possibly accompanied by strong winds is expected in the Greater Los Angeles area Saturday, the National Weather Service said Thursday.

The heaviest rain to hit Southern California as a result of the forthcoming late-season storm out of the Pacific Northwest will take place Friday in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties, said a National Weather Service statement. Light rain will then slide into Ventura and Los Angeles counties around midnight Friday and spend about 10 hours in the Southland before dissipating, added NWS Meteorologist Andrew Rorke.

Rain totals will range from a half-inch to an inch-and-a-half in most locations, with only a half-inch or less in Los Angeles County, the statement said, although Rorke said a quarter-inch is even more likely.

"The greatest impact will be slick roadways that can cause travel delays during commute times," warned the statement. "Minor street and creek flooding is possible with heavier rain. Gusty southwest winds may down trees and cause driving hazards."

The snow will remain above 8,000 feet, and there is currently no chance of mud or debris flows, Rorke said.

The NWS forecast partly cloudy skies in L.A. County Thursday and highs of 67 degrees Fahrenheit in Avalon; 68 at LAX; 72 on Mount Wilson; 74 in Long Beach; 75 in Downtown L.A.; 77 in San Gabriel, Saugus and Lancaster; 78 in Palmdale and Burbank; 79 in Pasadena; and 82 in Woodland Hills.

Partly cloudy skies were also forecast in Orange County, along with highs of 65 in Newport Beach and San Clemente; 68 in Laguna Beach; 74 in Irvine; 75 in Anaheim; 77 in Mission Viejo; 79 in Fullerton; and 81 in Yorba Linda.

Temperatures will be between 2 and 5 degrees lower Friday and shed another 2 to 8 degrees Saturday amid showers.
