Oh Great, More Hate...

Is this election process resulting in more hate crimes?

Oh great…more hate.

In reading about the massacre in Orlando, I'm quite shocked. In this day and age, crimes against the LGBT community seems to be an anomaly. Haven't we made progress in accepting those with differing lifestyles? Are we really going back to the 50s and 60s, when gays had to hide and pretend?

I attribute some of this violence to our upcoming presidential election. No matter what your political affiliation, this election cycle has unleashed a free-for-all when it comes to self-expression and doing whatever the hell you want when it comes to venting.

My mother is probably turning in her grave. She raised me with diplomacy and candor. My mother was a woman of manners, and despite feeling animosity toward some from time to time, her mantra was always "If you don't have something nice to say about someone, don't say anything at all."

I don't always live by this, and sometimes I am guilty of gossiping and speaking ill of people. But I don't flatten their tires or take a key to their car.

Nowadays, you have people expressing themselves in whatever fashion they please. Just unload yourself and worry about the consequences later.

Sometimes I look at the news and I wonder what country I’m living in. Maybe I’m residing in a third world country and that we are no better behaved than many of the nations we assist.

I always thought that we were better behaved-that we aspired to a higher standard, but now?

Will hate crimes continue to escalate in our country? Will minorities of every denomination be targeted with more and more violence?

You don't like someone? Just go out and shoot them. And when these incidents are broadcasted throughout the media, doesn't this just give others ideas about hoisting their own attacks upon any denomination that isn't agreeable to them?

Our country was based on immigration, with others coming into our fair land so that they could have a better life. Every nationality in this country was once a minority. Hatred now seems to be directed at anyone and everyone. No one seems safe anymore.

I'll be glad when this presidential election is over. Maybe all the hate and divisiveness that has flourished in the past year will eventually dissipate and we can get back to feeling a bit of safety in our country.
