Special Culver City Council Meeting On Police Policies And Budget On June 15

The meeting will take place on Monday, June 15 at 7:00 P.M. Please review the following meeting materials and submit any comments.

The City Council has scheduled a special City Council meeting to hear from the community and discuss whether changes should be made to Culver City Police Department policies or its budget. In addition, the City Council will consider authorizing the Mayor to sign the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance Mayor’s Pledge on Police Use of Force on behalf of the City.

Specifically, the City Council is considering taking the following actions:

  • Authorizing the Mayor to sign the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance Pledge; and,
  • Directing the City Manager and/or Chief of Police to complete the four actions in the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance Mayor’s Pledge, including reviewing police use of force policies, engaging the community by including a diverse range of input, experiences, and stories in the review; reporting the findings of the review to the community and seeking feedback; and, reforming the City’s police use of force policies; and,
  • Discussing Police Department policies and budget; and,
  • Providing additional direction to the City Manager and/or Chief of Police as deemed appropriate.

The Special Meeting will take place via video conference. To combat the spread of COVID-19, the City issued a “Safer at Home” emergency order on March 20, 2020.

How to Attend the Meeting Remotely: All attendees must Register to Attend on Webex, after which you will receive an email with directions and a link to join the meeting, once it has begun.
