2 Women Badly Injured After Crashing Catering Truck Into South Bay Traffic Pole
Two women are being treated for major injuries after they crashed a catering truck into a traffic signal pole in Sunnyvale Friday morning.

SOUTH BAY, CA -- Two women are being treated for major injuries at a trauma center after they crashed a catering truck into a traffic signal pole in Sunnyvale Friday morning, public safety officials said.
The crash was reported at 9:32 a.m. March 17 on northbound East Caribbean Drive at the entrance to the Twin Creeks children's sports fields on the shoreline of the San Francisco Bay, according to Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety Capt. Shawn Ahearn.
Both women, whose names have not been released, had to be extricated from the truck. One victim was airlifted and the other was transported by ground ambulance, Ahearn said.

The northbound lanes of East Caribbean Drive as well as the off-ramp from westbound state Highway 237 to Lawrence Expressway were closed until about 1:45 p.m., Ahearn said.
PG&E crews were also called to the scene.

Investigators have not determined whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call the department's traffic unit at (408) 730-7109.
