Apple Loses Huge Patent Case to University of Wisconsin
The company is on the hook for a possible $862 million after losing in court. Plus, another case just like it is coming along.
Cupertino-based Apple could owe $862 million in damages to the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s licensing division after a judgment went against the company this week.
A jury found that Apple used proprietary technology without permission.
The technology is used in the iPhone 5s, 6 and 6 Plus, along with several versions of the iPad.

Presiding Judge William Conley ruled recently that Apple could be liable forup to $862.4 million in damages.
In addition, the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) has filed a second lawsuit against Apple because the technology, which improves processor efficiency, is also included in the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, and the iPad Pro--all released after the first lawsuit proceeded.
