Car Struck By Light-Rail In Second VTA Incident Friday

Breaking: The Audi driver who was struck was taken to a hospital.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA -- A light-rail train hit a silver Audi sedan in San Jose Friday afternoon, injuring the driver and a few light-rail passengers, according to the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority.

The crash was reported around 12:51 p.m. at North First Street and Interstate Highway 880.

The driver, a man, was responsive and taken to a hospital. Between 20 and 24 people were on board the light-rail train, some of whom have complained of neck injuries, VTA spokeswoman Linh Hoang said.

A bus bridge was put in place to shuttle passengers between the Civic Center and Karina stations on the Mountain View to Winchester and Alum Rock to Santa Teresa lines. The Audi was being towed at 1:30 p.m.

The crash may have been the second VTA strike causing injury on North First Street in less than three hours, after a woman was either hit in the crosswalk or fell in front of a train around 10:30 a.m. near the Karina
station.

The woman was responsive and agreed to be taken to a hospital, Hoang said.
