Get Out in Cupertino: Music, Shakespeare Magic and Compassion

Free outdoor concert, a talk about Shakespeare, a Saturday play date, an encounter with magic, and looking ahead a taste of compassion: our suggestions to Get Out in and around Cupertino.

Each week Patch selects five fun or interesting events in or around Cupertino. Here are this week's Patch Picks:

Where/When: , Stevens Creek Boulevard & Mary Avenue, Thursday, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Why Go:  For a good part of the summer, on Thursday nights the place to be will be Memorial Park. Free outdoor concerts in the park make for a nice family time and to make it even more of an occasion, bring along a picnic supper. This Thursday the music will be provided by Highwater Blues, musicians who are passionate about blues-based American music.

Where/When: , 10800 Torre Ave., Saturday, 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Why Go: Introduce yourself and your children (or grandchildren) to Shakespeare via this interactive, innovative approach. Play with Free Shakespeare’s professional actors as you get on your feet and into the words for this interactive, fun exploration of Shakespeare’s  fairy tale!

Pricing: Free

Where/When: 18000 Chelmsford Drive (Rancho Rinconada Rec Center) Saturday, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: The older kids version of Kids Night Out on Friday nights. Maybe play cards or maybe play video games.  A chance to do some crafts and a movie, too, rated PG.  Lunch and a snack are part of the package.

Pricing: $5 and another $1 to $3 for crafts and miscelleanous items

EVEN YOU CAN DO MAGIC!

Where/When: Firefly Willows, 111 Main St. Los Altos, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Why Go: Learn to entertain yourself, your kids and your guests with art and the craft of magic. Regardless of your skill you can learn. Bring the kids and they'll be future stars.

Where/When:  Sushi Hana, 19068 Stevens Creek Blvd., Monday, Tuesday, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Why Go: This is a head-start into next week, but something to remember. West Valley Community Services presents here to raise funds to help people in our community. So show up for a meal and help support a good cause at the same time.

Pricing: $24 in advance, $26 at the door; kids $12 in advance, $13 at the door.
