Man, 77, Fatally Struck By Car In Sunnyvale's 2nd Death This Week

A 77-year-old man died after being hit by a car Monday evening — the city's second pedestrian death in less than a week.

SUNNYVALE, CA — A 77-year-old man died after he was hit by a car in Sunnyvale Monday evening, police said. The man was identified as Milton Thorne, a Sunnyvale resident, by the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office.

Thorne died at a hospital after the accident, which happened shortly before 7:45 p.m. Monday at the intersection of South Eden and Fair Oaks avenues.

Responding officers found Thorne lying injured in the road. He was taken to a hospital but died there of his injuries, officials said.

The driver whose car hit Thorne stayed at the scene, cooperated with authorities and isn't suspected of driving under the influence. The car had been traveling north on Fair Oaks when the collision occurred, public safety officials said.

Last Tuesday, 47-year-old David Green was killed after being hit by a car at a different Sunnyvale intersection.
