New San Jose City Manager Named
Current City Manager Norberto Duenas is retiring.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA ā The San Jose City Council and Mayor Sam Liccardo appointed Dave Sykes, an employee with more than 30 years of experience with the city, as city manager this morning. Sykes will start serving in his new position in mid-October after current City Manager Norberto Duenas retires.
Sykes has been working as assistant city manager for more than two years, according to city officials. He first came to work for San Jose in 1987 as a part-time engineering trainee.
During his time with the Public Works Department, he helped deliver more than $700 million in public improvements, eventually working his way up to public works director and city engineer.

The city manager is one of just five appointed employees who answer directly to the City Council and Mayor Liccardo. Sykes will be responsible for overseeing all of the city's operations and staff, managing the delivery of public services, advising the council and implementing their policies as directed, according to the city charter.
