• Cupertino, Los Altos Hills approve costlier sheriff's contracts (mercurynews.com) — Cupertino has renewed its contract with the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office at a sharply higher cost, jumping from $19 million to $25.4 million this fiscal year while preserving the right to challenge overhead charges. City leaders, alongside Los Altos Hills and Saratoga, are questioning millions in countywide fees and may pursue negotiations or mediation to recover what they see as excessive costs. 
• Girls Volleyball beats Cupertino 3-0 on Wednesday Oct 7 (vikingsportsmag.com) — Cupertino High's girls volleyball team fell 3–0 to Palo Alto's Paly squad on Wednesday night, snapping Paly's seven-game win streak threat and keeping them atop the league. Cupertino's tall front line couldn't contain Paly senior Maura Hambly's hitting, and by the third set Paly was confident enough to rotate in less-experienced players while still closing out the sweep.
