Student Award Winners

Celebrating 100 Years of Women's Suffrage

Local student essay winners celebrated awards and earned scholarships with the Daughters of the American Revolution, Santa Clara Chapter, during a luncheon this month. Students from Miller Middle School, Challenger School - Berryessa, Silver Oak Elementary, and one homeschooled student submitted winning essays in the national American History Essay Contest. Honoring significant historical people, places, dates and events, the 2018 essay topic was “The Women’s Suffrage Campaign.” One Wilcox High School senior earned the Good Citizens Award. This program and scholarship contest recognizes outstanding young people who exhibit the qualities of good citizenship in their homes, schools and communities.

Daughters of the American Revolution is a nonprofit, nonpolitical volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to preserving American history, promoting patriotism, and securing America’s future through education. Any woman age 18 years or older, who can prove a lineal, bloodline descent from an ancestor who aided achieving American independence is eligible to join DAR.
