Suspect Who Groped Woman In Santa Clara Sought By Police

Police are asking witnesses of the sexual assault to come forward. Detectives are also seeking surveillance footage from nearby residents.

SANTA CLARA VALLEY, CA — Police in Santa Clara are investigating an incident in which a woman was sexually assaulted on a city sidewalk. The woman was walking at about 8:50 p.m. Sunday, April 29 near the corner of Benton Street and Waterbird Way when a man she did not know grabbed her from behind and groped her, then ran off, according to police.

The suspect was described as a slim, light-skinned man between 20 and 35 years old with dark-colored hair who was wearing a dark-colored shirt and dark-colored shorts.

Santa Clara police Capt. Wahid Kazem encourages anyone who may have witnessed the assault to come forward by contacting Detective John Terry at 408-615-4812 or jterry@santaclaraca.gov.

"If you have been a victim of a similar incident, please contact the Santa Clara Police Department immediately," Kazem added.

Residents with surveillance cameras in that general neighborhood are also encouraged to contact Detective Terry.
