Police previously charged Mireya Orta, 50, with murder in the seemingly random attack.

CUPERTINO, CA — Authorities have identified the pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run in Cupertino on Tuesday, the Santa Clara County coroner's office confirmed to Patch.

Lawrence Lupash, 77, of Sunnyvale, was killed by a driver at Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve and County Park on Tuesday, KGO reported earlier Friday. Police have charged Mireya Orta, 50, with murder with the use of a deadly weapon, premeditated attempted murder and resisting an officer.

Prosecutors allege that Orta drove an Audi A5 sedan onto a trail, struck two men with her car, reversed and drove back and forth over one man's body. She then fled the scene and continued driving around the park, attempting to hit another man who managed to dive out of the way, according to KGO.

Orta was denied bail at a hearing Friday afternoon in Santa Clara County Superior Court, with her next hearing scheduled for Nov. 7. She is being held in the Santa Clara County Main Jail.

The second pedestrian hit suffered non-life threatening injuries. Orta appeared to have no connection to the victims and the attack seemed to be deliberate but random, KGO reported.
