Alamo Bank Robbery: Woman Arrested

Officials say they're arrested Chelsea Michelle Smith, of Fairfield, in connection with a Jan. 21 bank robbery at Union Bank in Alamo.

ALAMO, CA — The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office has charged a Fairfield woman with robbing Union Bank in Alamo on Tuesday, Jan. 21 around 11 a.m. Chelsea Michelle Smith, of Fairfield, allegedly fled the bank in the 3100 block of Danville Boulevard with cash after threatening a bank teller, the sheriff's office said in a statement.

Deputies with the Valley Station sheriff's office and Danville Police Department investigated and identified Smith as a suspect. Officials believe she is linked to two other robberies in Pleasant Hill and Martinez this week, the sheriff's office said.

Sheriff's detectives notified Fairfield police that she was in their city. The Fairfield Police Department detained her, and sheriff's detectives arrested her on suspicion of robbery. She was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility and held under $100,000 bail, but she has since bailed out, according to the sheriff's office.

Another East Bay robbery was reported Wednesday in Berkeley, shortly after 2 p.m. at a Wells Fargo bank branch at 2144 Shattuck Ave, but officials do not suspect Smith was involved. The robber demanded money, took it and left the bank, police spokesman Officer Byron White said. The robber indicated he had a gun but no one saw it. The suspect was described as a short black man with a heavy build, and wearing a blue sweater with a blue hood.

The investigation into Smith is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office at 925-313-2600. Tips may also be emailed to tips@so.cccounty.us, and anonymous messages may be left on voicemail at 866-846-3592.
