Bank-owned Homes for Sale

This week, we're detailing different options for buyers in the Tri-Valley.

Foreclosures, sadly, have become a way of life.

Bank-owned homes are more commonplace in some places but they can be found in any town or neighborhood.

Since people are always curious about the bank-owned market, I thought it would be interesting to see a sampling of REOs, which stands for Real Estate Owned, the bank’s term for the assets on their books.

REOs are different than short sales—a short sale is not owned by the bank but will require the lender's approval to sell “short” of what is owed. This can be a very long process. Make no mistake, the term "short sale" does not refer to timing. 

An REO, on the other hand, can be a traditional 30-day-close, but it will be an “as-is” sale. Typically, banks price their homes to attract a quick offer and have a “take it or leave it” attitude. In general, they do not make repairs or accommodate seller requests as you might see in a traditional sale.

Alamo
