Bay Area Air Quality Alert Extended Through Monday

Smoke blowing toward the Bay Area from the Mineral Fire in Fresno County and other new fires is continuing to affect air quality.

CALIFORNIA — Smoke blowing toward the Bay Area from the Mineral Fire in Fresno County as well as other new fires are continuing to affect air quality this weekend, according to the Bay Area Air Quality Management District.

"Smoke from the fire is expected to impact the Bay Area through Monday," the agency said in a news release. "At the surface, winds are forecast to remain onshore across the Bay Area. Smoke will likely remain aloft, resulting in smoky and hazy skies."

The agency said it would monitor air quality throughout the Bay Area for smoke from the fire. If residents can smell smoke, the agency advises them to avoid exposure by staying inside with windows and doors closed until the smoke levels subside.

The agency also recommended setting air conditioners and car vent systems to recirculate, preventing outside air from moving inside.
