Meals On Wheels Diablo Region 'Fan Club' Seeks Donations
The nonprofit is distributing new, electric fans to homebound seniors living without air conditioning. Donations can be made online.
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — Meals on Wheels Diablo Region is seeking donations to its "Fan Club" — as the organization aims to distributeg electric fans to homebound seniors, who lack air conditioning and could be in grave danger during heat waves.
Heat-related illnesses can be deadly, especially for older adults, said the agency that provides meals and services to vulnerable, elderly residents in Cental and East Contra Costa County.
“When we deliver meals, we have a chance to check in on our clients’ safety,” said Caitlin Sly, executive director for the nonprofit. “But during these hot summer months, heatstroke can occur quickly and may have serious consequences. A fan provides significant relief during these scorching days.”
