Danville Church Garage Sale Raises $8,300 For Fire Victims
The event was part of the annual Serve Day weekend organized and hosted by Community Presbyterian Church.
DANVILLE, CA — A garage sale fundraiser held last weekend in Danville raised $8,300 for victims of the devastating Mendocino Complex Fire. The event was part of the annual Serve Day weekend organized and hosted by Community Presbyterian Church of Danville.
Hundreds of bargain hunters visited the massive sale held on the blacktop of the San Ramon Valley Christian Academy, which is CPC’s (K-8) school. Students helped to make the sale successful, busting their goal of $5,000. The night before, CPC’s ROCK youth group leaders and students kept watch over the items.
"The fires in our area have been so bad this year, we wanted to find a way to help those impacted," CPC Missions Director Deana Dickerson said. "Our hope is that this will become known as 'The 925’s Biggest Garage Sale,' funding a different need every year."

On Serve Day weekend, the popular church cancels their weekend services so parishioners can volunteer their time. About 1,700 volunteers gave up their weekend to help those in need in support of the 2018 theme “Everybody Always.” Launched three years ago by CPC Lead Pastor Tyler Scott and organized by Dickerson, Serve Day is the Bay Area’s broadest reaching volunteer effort in a single weekend, serving 44 projects in nine cities, across three counties.
"Serve Day is my favorite weekend of the year for so many reasons," Scott said. "These days, churches are often known for what they’re against, not what they’re for. At CPC, we’re for our community. We’re for showing up and showing love to everybody always."

Projects this year included Kids Against Hunger, Together We Rise, the Crayon Initiative, San Francisco CIty Impact, Bay Area Rescue Mission and dozens of others.
Scott said, "Serving the community does more than impact the environment - it breathes life and love into those around us as God intended. It certainly breathed life into the thousands of people serving and being served all over the Bay Area last weekend."
To celebrate, CPC will host a Serve Day Celebration on Saturday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. CPC is located at 222 West El Pintado in Danville.
