DANVILLE, CA — A Danville native is set to shake it in the San Jose Stage Company's production of the cult musical "The Rocky Horror Show." Monica Moe, a San Ramon Valley High School alum, has been cast as Phantom in the production that runs Oct. 2 through Nov. 3.

Moe's been prepping for the role by working on her fitness. "In order to stay strong for this particularly heavy dance show, I incorporated a series of dance and fitness classes into my schedule," she said. She's been taking yoga, TRX barre, cycling, and heated barre classes every week.

"In addition, I try to include at least one dance class — whether that be ballet, modern, contemporary, or Gaga, which is a movement technique developed by Ohad Naharin that initiates movement from sensing and imagination as opposed to imitation," Moe continued.

This summer Moe participated in a dance intensive with Kristin Damrow & Company in San Francisco, and even got in a little rock climbing with friends.

"As you may have noticed, I have quite the passion for fitness ...," she said.

As for the upcoming "Rocky" production, it will be everything you remember, according to the show's director Allison F. Rich.

"I would like, if I may, to take you on a strange journey…,” Rich said. “… and I can assure it’s going to be decadently strange! 'The Rocky Horror Show' pays tribute to sci-fi horror B-movies with the perfect culmination of sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll (and just a touch of camp!)."

The production marks the first of the The Stage's 37th season. The show's artistic director is Randall King, Cathleen King is executive director, and choreography is by Tracey Shaw. Book, music and lyrics are by Richard O’Brien.

The San Jose Stage Company is located at 490 South 1st Street, San Jose. Tickets for the show range from $32 - $60 and can be purchased through the theater's box office at (408) 283-7142 or online at www.thestage.org.
