DANVILLE, CA — A Monte Vista High School student was chosen as one of two girls out of over 400 as a California delegate to the Girls Nation conference in Washington, D.C.

From July 23 to 30, Sabrina Brandeis of Danville will serve as a “senator” who crafts and debates legislation with representatives from every state in the union. On her all-expenses-paid trip, Brandeis will also tour the White House, the Capitol, Arlington National Cemetery, and other DC landmarks. She may even meet the president, she told Patch.

Brandeis was selected after a successful run at the Girls State program at CSU Sacramento a few weeks ago. At the conference, 400 girls from across the state sponsored by their American Legion Auxiliary posts created their own governments complete with city maps, plans, budgets and elected officials.

Brandeis decided to run for Supreme Court (coincidentally, a man named Louis Brandeis served on the US Supreme Court from 1916 to 1939.) After giving speeches in front of the entire conference, she was elected Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. She led a moot court hearing in front of all the other delegates and the elected attorney general and other supreme court justices.

Closer to home, Brandeis marched with the American Legion Auxiliary during Danville’s July 4 parade.
