DuRoff Breaks Chabot Record In Blowout
Story by Phil Jensen: Glads hit eight home runs in rout of CCSF. DuRoff hits his 19th Big Fly.

Chabot slammed a jaw-dropping eight home runs in a 20-4 victory over City College of San Francisco in the Coast-North Conference on Tuesday.
Casey Cummings, Mathieu Robillard and Aidan Morton had two home runs apiece for the power-packed team (27-10-1, 14-4) that clinched the conference title last week.
“It was a fun game to be a part of and watch,” said Cummings, a San Ramon Valley High graduate who ranks third in the state in home runs with 15. “When a team is playing loose like that and just enjoying the game on a good day, it all just falls into place.”
Chabot’s Brian DuRoff (Monte Vista) smashed his way into the record books with a three-run blast in the sixth inning, his state-leading 19th homer this season. He broke Nate Schierholtz’s program record of 18 in a season.
“I didn’t really know until rounding the bases,” said DuRoff, who was told the news by third base coach Bryce Mendonca. “I kind of knew I was in reach, but it never crossed my mind going up there to the plate. … It’s a cool feeling with a school that has such a good history.”
DuRoff also leads the state in RBI with 72.
In the lively sixth inning, after Robillard and DuRoff went deep, Zion Judkins, out of Benicia High, deposited the first pitch over the fence in right. Cummings also ripped the first pitch of the game to a Chabot hitter for a home run.
“We keep it pretty simple. I think we just go up and see the ball and try to make hard contact,” said Chabot head coach Will Tavis, whose team leads the state with 68 home runs.
Chabot wraps up the regular season on Thursday at Skyline.
CCSF (11-25, 4-15) took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but Chabot quickly took command. After Cummings’ leadoff home run halved the deficit, the next three Gladiators reached base before San Leandro graduate Dominic Charles’ three-run double put Chabot ahead to stay. Charles finished with three hits and four RBI in the game.
Interestingly, the Gladiators hit seven home runs between the fourth and seventh innings, including three in the sixth.
Morton (Washington HS) led off the fourth with a home run to left-center. Two batters later, Cummings hit one to deep center for a 6-2 Chabot advantage.
Robillard (Dougherty Valley) led off the fifth with a long home run to left. The sophomore ripped his second home run the next inning for a 12-2 Gladiators lead. Four batters later, DuRoff went yard, followed by Judkins.
In the seventh, Morton blasted his second home run for an 18-2 Chabot lead. The sophomore was 3 for 5 with three RBI and two runs scored. Kacen Shreffler (Livermore) also had three hits for the Gladiators. Eleven Chabot players had hits and seven had extra-base hits.
“I think we just have dudes who put barrels on baseballs,” DuRoff said. “Good things happen when you hit the right way and have the right approach.”
Chabot amassed 23 hits and made no errors in the blowout.
