George Escutia, Jr., Promoted To District Director For Tri-Valley

DANVILLE, CA — State Senator Steve Glazer (D-Orinda), who represents the Tri-Valley in the 7th Senate District, announced Monday that he has a new district director. George Escutia, Jr., has been promoted to the position. Prior to the appointment, Escutia, 38, served as a senior district representative since Glazer’s election to the state Senate in May, 2015. He was responsible for handling issues of concern for constituents, and served as a liaison with state, district and local agencies, and organized town halls across the district.

“George has been a dedicated and effective district field representative for the past four years,” Sen. Glazer said. “He has built and sustained strong relationships with local government and community leaders. He is very familiar with our unique cities and towns that make our area deserving of special protection and advocacy. That is why he is perfectly suited to assume the position of district director. I have high standards for the engagement and responsiveness of my office on issues affecting our residents. George has the ability and leadership to sustain that excellent level of service.”

Glazer’s involvement with the annual Contra Costa Point in Time homeless census, and others. Escutia’s own experience with poverty, housing and food insecurity has provided Glazer’s office with an important perspective on issues facing many in the 7th Senate District.

"Escutia has extensive history advocating for community colleges: he has worked for the Roosevelt Institute as a coordinator for chapters in California Community Colleges; worked with the Campaign for College Opportunity on reforms of the community college transfer system to the California State University; and was the vice president for external affairs for the Student Senate for California Community Colleges," according to the senator's office.

Escutia currently is enrolled at St. Mary’s College of California in Moraga studying leadership and organizational studies after transferring from the California’s community college system.
