Gun-Toting Man Arrested on Suspicion of Attempted Murder Near Danville

Two men at the home grabbed the suspect and a third person hit him in the head with a water pitcher, sheriff's officials said.

A gun-toting man who allegedly barged into a home near Danville and nearly shot another man was arrested on Thursday afternoon, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office. At around 3 p.m. Thursday, sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to reports of a man brandishing a gun in the garage of a home in the 2400 block of Marsanne Street.

The man, identified by sheriff’s officials as 64-year-old Harry Alexander, was threatening residents during a domestic incident and allegedly battered one of them before leaving the home. Sheriff’s officials said Alexander drove to another home in the 1400 block of Menton Street, where he forced entry into the home and once more brandished a firearm. Two men at the home grabbed the suspect and a third person hit him in the head with a water pitcher, sheriff’s officials said.

During the scuffle, Alexander tried to shoot one of the men, according to sheriff’s officials. The bullet apparently barely missed him. Sheriff’s officials said the men did manage to restrain Alexander and take the gun from him. He was arrested on counts of attempted homicide, domestic violence, burglary, criminal threats, battery and brandishing a firearm, according to sheriff’s officials.

Alexander was treated at a hospital before being booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on $1.21 million bail.
