Valentine-Shaped Nebula: Danville Photo Of The Day

The universe is sending love! Danville resident Bob Schiff captured this heartwarming, heart-shaped photo of the Heart Nebula.

The Heart Nebula is located about 7,500 light years from Earth, and shares a complex with its neighbor known as the Soul Nebula.

DANVILLE, CA — Even from 7,500 light years away, love shines through. Danville resident Bob Schiff captured this image Sunday of the Heart Nebula, an emission nebula that shines red due to nearby ionized hydrogen gas. Its nearby neighbor is a much smaller nebula known as the Soul Nebula, and together they form the Heart and Soul Complex.

And talk about having a big heart: this nebula has a radius of 165 light years....more than enough love to go around. See here to learn more.

Thanks as always to Bob for sharing the awe-inspiring images from his telescope. If you'd like to email any photos, artwork or poetry, email Michael.wittner@patch.com.
