LAS TRAMPAS REGIONAL WILDERNESS — A developmentally disabled man was rescued by helicopter from the Las Trampas Regional Wilderness on Saturday, according to the California Highway Patrol. He was taken to a waiting ambulance so that he could be checked out at a local hospital as a precaution.

The CHP reports that the man called 911 shortly before 2 p.m. after he became separated from his care taker somewhere in the wilderness. A level-headed dispatcher for San Ramon Valley Fire was able to explain to him how to get his GPS location from his phone.

Armed with the man's exact location, a CHP helicopter found him 100 feet off a trail and in a ravine. The chopper landed, and the crew got him on board and flew him to the ambulance.
