IMPACT Diablo Valley Awards $150,000 To Local Nonprofits

The donations were made by over 100 local families.

ALAMO, CA — IMPACT Diablo Valley, an organization of 130 families aiming to give philanthropic donations, has selected three local nonprofits to receive a total of $150,000.

The group, led by Alamo resident Gina Harlow and Mindy Longo, has awarded a total of $732,000 over six years to local nonprofits, according to a news release. In 2023, they have selected the following groups for grants:

  • We Care - Services for Children, $100,000: This Concord-based organization helps address the mental health, developmental, and educational needs of disadvantaged children up to age five.
  • Dentists on Wheels, $25,000: This Alamo-based organization provides access to dental care to uninsured, low-income families in and around Contra Costa County.
  • Shelter Inc., $25,000: Shelter Inc. helps provide housing, services, and support for unhoused or housing-insecure families and individuals.

The money was pooled together from $1000 contributions from many local families. “The concept of collective giving allows us to pool our resources and give a local organization a significant grant,” said Halow. “Those funds might launch a new program, invest in infrastructure or serve as a capital investment. An IMPACT grant is not about funding day-to-day operations but about really helping uplift an organization and thus our entire community,” founder Gina Halow said.
