Impeachment: Congressman DeSaulnier Votes 'Yes' Along Party Lines
Contra Costa County Congressman Mark DeSaulnier called President Donald Trump "a threat to our national security" in a post-vote statement.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — U.S. Rep. Mark DeSaulnier voted to impeach President Donald Trump Wednesday night on two articles of impeachment: abuse of power and obstructing Congress. DeSaulnier, whose district includes most of Contra Costa County, said in a statement that the 45th president broke the law by seeking foreign interference in U.S. elections.
The Democrat-controlled House voted 230-197 on abuse and 229-198 on obstruction. In doing so, a majority of the House held that Trump abused his office by attempting to withhold foreign aid in exchange for an investigation into political rival and former Vice President Joe Biden, and obstructed Congress by trying to cover up his actions.

“With the President’s pattern of escalating behavior, failing to hold him accountable for his actions will lead to more violations. This President is a threat to our national security," DeSaulnier said in the statement. "That is why today I voted to defend our democracy, uphold our oath of office and the Constitution, and impeach President Trump.”
Trump is now the third president in U.S. history to become impeached., but it's considered very unlikely that the Republican-controlled Senate will vote to remove the 45th president from office for "high crimes and misdemeanors." No Republicans in the House voted to impeach him.
