Monte Vista Student Named First CCCOE Student Board Member
Senior Daphne Milich is one of two student board members who will express a preference before a motion, but will not cast a tallied vote.

DANVILLE, CA — Monte Vista High School senior Daphne Milich was named as one of the first student members of the Contra Costa Board of Education.
Milich will join Sophia Nguyen of El Cerrito High School in presenting the voices and perspectives of students in the county. She will participate in board meetings, offer insights on issues affecting students, and collaborate with other board members to shape educational policy. She and Nguyen will have a preferential vote, meaning they can express their preference on a motion before the vote, but this will not count toward the official vote tally.
“Prioritizing student voice is a priority for me and the Contra Costa County Board of Education,” Board President Consuelo Lara said in a statement. “This will give us an opportunity to embrace the perspectives and insights of the students we serve through the voice of our student members. We are eager to work alongside Sophia and Daphne, who will bring fresh ideas and valuable perspectives to the table.”

In addition to her board membership, Milich is an advocate for unhoused students in Contra Costa County, and serves on Monte Vista’s Campus Culture Committee, according to a CCCOE news release.
“It’s an honor to be selected as one of the first student board members on the Contra Costa County Board of Education,” Milich said in a statement. “As I begin my term, my goal is to act as a voice for my fellow students, and to be a conduit for positive change.”
