Mysterious Rock Formation Found In Las Trampas: Photo Of The Day

Explorer Bob Bardell happened upon a rock formation near Rocky Ridge that could be a Native American site or a hunting blind for ranchers.

DANVILLE, CA - The San Ramon Valley has its own mini-Stonehenge. Bob Bardell, a member of the East Bay Hill People group that has created a comprehensive guide to Native American sites throughout the East Bay, came upon a rock formation near Rocky Ridge in the Las Trampas Regional Wilderness.

“We think it is an ancient Native American Prayer Seat, located near the top of Rocky Ridge, which is an obvious Power Spot, once you get to know it,” said James Benney, a member of the group who has written a guidebook to East Bay Native American sitesthat is available to read online.

Still, others may argue that it is a hunting blind for ranchers, Benney said. Benney is not yet listing the site on his comprehensive online map of Native American East Bay sites due to the uncertainty.
