New Private Preschool Opens In Danville
The Harper School, founded by a Stratford school co-founder, is offering preschool and kindergarten programs in Danville.

DANVILLE, CA — A private preschool and kindergarten has opened in the education wing of Peace Lutheran Church, the former location of Danville’s Stratford School campus.
Harper School, which was founded by Stratford co-founder Joe Wagner and has sister campuses in Redwood City and St. Louis, is accepting applications for full-day and half-day programs for toddlers, preschool, prekindergarten and kindergarten students. In future years, the school plans to add lower elementary school grades.
The school is named for Harper Lee, the author of “To Kill A Mockingbird.” The school offers programs in reading, phonics, math, and projects like simple coding and robotics. It also emphasizes character development, which is why it was named for Harper Lee.

“The novel is one of the all-time greats for fostering a love of reading in children and provides young and old readers alike an enduring lesson about living without prejudice and standing up for what is right,” Wagner said in a news release. “You couldn’t ask for a better message. After all, our goal at Harper is to help our young learners not only be good students, but good kids, and only by doing both will we succeed as a school.
“We’re excited to open Harper School and offer parents and students a safe and nurturing
environment,” he said. “Our goal is for Harper students to achieve a strong foundation in
traditional academic subjects combined with a competency in 21st century skills. There will be
lots of learning by doing – solving math problems, reading and writing, playing musical
instruments, coding, and building robots. The school day will be fun and challenging for Harper students.”
