DANVILLE, CA — Danville resident Bob Schiff captured this breathtaking image of the North America Nebula, so named because its shape resembles that of North America. Located in the Cygnus constellation, it is an emission nebula in the Milky Way Galaxy where young stars ionize the surrounding dust and gas and emit energy that we view as red.

Schiff’s first successful capture of a nebula was also the first day that her daughter and her husband gave birth to his first granddaughter, Paige Alice. Congratulations, Bob!
