Danville Bank Robbery Suspect Is Former Police Officer, Authorities Say

Jennifer Rae McClary, 36, worked for Los Angeles Police Department and the Placentia Police Department.

DANVILLE, CA — Police confirm a woman suspected of robbing a Danville bank Tuesday morning is a former police officer who worked for two Southern California police departments. The Los Angeles Police Department said Jennifer Rae McClary, 36, was employed as a police officer from February 2006 to May 2008. Following her tour with LAPD, McClary worked at the Placentia Police Department for about 17 months from 2008 to 2010, according to Placentia Police Department Sgt. Bryce Angel.

Police said McClary, who had what appeared to be a painted-on beard, entered the bank just after 9 a.m. and gave the teller a demand note. No weapon was seen during the robbery, according to police.

McClary fled the building and was last seen on foot headed north on El Pintado Road. The robbery prompted the precautionary lockdown of nearby San Ramon Valley Christian Academy due to the police activity.
After further investigation, McClary was arrested Tuesday afternoon on suspicion of robbery and possession of a controlled substance and was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility.

If convicted, McClary would be the second California police officer in the last two years to rob a bank. As part of a plea deal in 2016, Randolph Bruce Adair, 70, of Rancho Santa Margarita, pleaded guilty to robbing a Rancho Santa Margarita bank and brandishing a gun in the heist. He was indicted in 2015 on charges of robbing five Orange County banks, but the additional charges were dropped as part of the deal. The retired LAPD Detective with a gambling habit was sentenced to seven years in prison.
