Town Council Denies Permit For Controversial Verizon Tower
The Danville Citizens for Responsible Growth led the charge to prevent the addition of the panels.
DANVILLE, CA — The Danville Town Council on Tuesday voted 4-1 to deny a Verizon Wireless application requesting to attach antennas to an existing utility pole on Camino Tassajara, town officials said. A community group called the Danville Citizens for Responsible Growth led the charge to prevent the addition of the panels, which were approved by the Danville Planning Commission in October of 2018.
The pole is located within the public right-of-way on the north side of Camino Tassajara approximately 225 feet east of Gate Tree Drive, according to town documents.
Since Verizon Wireless submitted the permit application, the Danville Citizens for Responsible Growth have expressed their concern over the potential health effects from the addition of the panels. The group filed an appeal against the October approval and started a GoFundMe page, which has garnered more than $2600 since it was launched in November.

"Several residents attended the meeting and spoke to the council," town spokesperson Geoff Gillette said. "The council then debated and discussed the issue at length, before deciding to uphold the appeal, thereby denying Verizon’s application."
Verizon Wireless has not been reached for comment.
