2 Davis Students Win National Merit Scholarships

The 2020 college-sponsored National Merit Scholarships were announced on Tuesday. All 2020 National Merit Scholarships total $30 million.

DAVIS, CA — Two Davis High School students have been chosen to receive 2020 college-sponsored National Merit Scholarships. The recipients from Davis, Remi Hansen and Joshua Lubin, both were selected to receive scholarships from Arizona State University.

Hansen's probable career field is finance, while Lubin is most likely to go into patent law.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced the names Tuesday of over 3,300 winners of scholarships financed by U.S. colleges and universities. Each award provides between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.

More scholarship winners will be announced next month, bringing the total number of college-sponsored Merit Scholarship recipients in the 2020 competition to about 4,100.

The 92 private and 75 public colleges and universities are spread out over 43 states and the District of Columbia.

This marks the third round of scholarship winners announced this year. Corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards and National Merit $2,500 Scholarships were awarded in the spring. When the final scholarship is announced, about 7,600 high school seniors will have received over $30 million.
