Peña Adobe Regional Park

From Sacramento, Company G of the 10th Cavalry, better known to history as the Buffalo Soldiers, will be riding out of western history and into Peña Adobe Park again this year.&nbsp; The Buffalo Soldiers are a living history group that recreates the black cavalry units that served in the Old West from 1866 to 1891.&nbsp;&nbsp;The Soldiers will be available to chat with park visitors and display artifacts of the Buffalo Soldiers’ history while dressed in the uniform of that time period.In addition to the Buffalo Soldiers, the Solano County Sheriffs’ Posse will be at Peña Adobe!&nbsp;&nbsp;The Sheriffs’ Posse has been part of the Solano County Sheriffs’ Office for more than 70 years!&nbsp; The Posse volunteers who use their horses and equipment to help the department with public relations, education, search &amp; rescue, emergency and disaster services as needed. &nbsp;Come to the Peña Adobe Park, bring a picnic lunch and meet Robin Turner and the Sheriffs’ Posse and see their amazing horses!&nbsp; Learn the important role horses played when the Peña and Vaca families were raising cattle back in the mid 1800’s on their ranch which later became the city of Vacaville. &nbsp;The Silverado Handweavers and Spinners Guild from Napa Valley will be on hand.&nbsp; Established in 1973, the guild's volunteers bring together people who share a love for fiber arts and creative expression.&nbsp; Meet Jody Lane, President of the Guild and stop by to watch Guild members spin yarn and weave cloth.&nbsp; In addition to the demonstrations, they have a variety of looms and tools available to educate our visitors.Meet Ron J. Jackson, Jr., bestselling author, historian, speaker, and former award-winning journalist who has been&nbsp;writing professionally for 38 years. He is the author of numerous books, including the ground-breaking “Joe, the Slave Who Became an Alamo Legend”, winner of the prestigious Award of Merit for nonfiction from The Philosophical Society of Texas.&nbsp; Ron’s book traces Joe’s story from his birth in Kentucky through his life in slavery to the Texans’ battle for independence to his eventual escape and disappearance into the shadows of history.&nbsp; Ron will bring his newest book “The Ride”,&nbsp;the improbable life of Freckles Brown, a bull named Tornado, and the most historic eight seconds in rodeo!Joining the fun will be the Vacaville Acoustic Jammers!&nbsp; The Jammers will provide music during the event!&nbsp; Under the direction of Terry and Leslie Cloper, the Jammers offer musicians of all styles and abilities the opportunity to play acoustic instruments and sing together and meet for open jam sessions at Vacaville’s McBride Senior Center on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday every month. Park docents will be available to lead tours of the Peña Adobe, California historical landmark #534 built by the Peña family in 1842 and the adjacent Mowers-Goheen Museum.&nbsp; This event is free!

Dixon Community Youth Theater is thrilled to announce auditions for The Addams Family Musical Young@Part®, a delightfully spooky musical comedy based on the beloved characters created by Charles Addams. Young performers ages 8–18 are invited to join the Addams family and bring this hilarious, heartwarming, and wonderfully weird story to life on stage.
Featuring music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa and a book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, the show follows Wednesday Addams as she falls in love with a “normal” boy and introduces his family to her delightfully eccentric clan.&nbsp;
Directed by Kelly Pidgeon James, with assistance from Stevie Carr and choreography by Isabelle Reeder, this production provides young performers the opportunity to build acting, singing, dancing, teamwork, and confidence skills while creating lasting friendships.
Auditions will be held July 12-14, and on July 19th with callbacks on Monday July 20th &amp; Tuesday July 21st, 2026, at Dixon High School Room D302. Rehearsals begin the first week of August, with performances scheduled for October 9–11 and October 16–18, 2026.
No previous theater experience is required, and performers of all experience levels are encouraged to audition.

Are you a musician who's always wanted to be in a band but never had the chance or thought you could be? Or are you already in a band and want more strategies and techniques to take your musicianship to the next level? Whatever your musical background, this workshop is for you! As an experienced master class instructor, Richard knows how to bring folks of varying levels of experience together so newer players never feel left out or confused, and more advanced guitarists are never bored or restrained to slow down for the beginner. Under Richard’s direction, we will ‘create a band’ on the spot with a combination of rhythms, fingerpicking, and a touch of music theory. You’ll learn how to: join and exit the group, listen to yourself and each other, vary your dynamic attack, play with your eyes closed, follow your breath, and release body tension. He’ll also experiment with different instrumental voicings with the use of a capo to create a layered, symphonic sound. You’ll leave the workshop knowing you gained valuable new skills and contributed to making some beautiful noise with others who love the guitar too.
Skills Needed: Some experience with a few basic chords and strumming. Barre chords and fingerpicking are helpful but not required.
What to Bring: A guitar or ukulele. Optional but helpful: tuner, capo, pencil, and paper. Handout materials will be provided.
Teacher: Never one to settle for the boring or mundane, Richard Gilewitz surprises audiences with his hilariously eccentric vision of the world and its inhabitants alongside breathtaking fingerstyle artistry on the 6- and 12-string guitar. Named one of the top fingerstyle guitarists of all time, Richard invariably captivates listeners with uniquely emotional interpretations of romping knuckle busters and contemplative classical tunes reimagined for steel strings. He credits his ability to pull the deepest breath out of a tune to having studied for decades with a classical guitarist, who was himself taught by a violinist who played alongside Albert Einstein. Internationally acclaimed fingerstyle guitarist Richard Gilewitz will appear live at Watermelon Music on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 from 7:30 PM-9:30 PM, as part of his album release tour supporting his tenth studio recording, GILEWITZ.&nbsp;
Widely regarded for his virtuoso fingerstyle technique and engaging stage presence, Gilewitz has toured internationally for more than three decades, earning praise for performances that move seamlessly between classical, blues, folk, jazz, and rock traditions. His repertoire spans from Bach to Zeppelin, delivered with technical mastery and a storyteller’s charm. DigitalDreamDoor has ranked him among the Top 100 Greatest Acoustic Guitar Players of All Time.
Gilewitz has performed at major festivals and venues worldwide, including the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, and has opened for artists such as Warren Zevon, America, Leo Kottke, Steve Morse, and The Little River Band, as well as comedians including Richard Lewis and Louie Anderson. Guitar legend Leo Kottke recorded one of Gilewitz’s original compositions, retitling it Echoing Gilewitz in his honor.
In addition to his performance career, Gilewitz is a respected educator and creator of instructional materials for TrueFire and Mel Bay Publications, and is the founder of Gillacamp Guitar and Ukulele Camp. His recent appearances include repeated invitations to perform at the Chicago Botanic Gardens, where he drew the largest audience in the venue’s summer concert series history.
