1. Court Watch: Accused Remains in Custody Despite Community Ties and Offer to Return to Colorado (davisvanguard.org) — A Yolo County judge has ordered a UC Davis employee to remain in custody on a Colorado fugitive warrant, despite his defense citing local employment and home ownership as reasons for bail. Prosecutors stressed the seriousness of the out-of-state child exploitation charges, while the defense argued that continued incarceration could upend his established life in the Davis area.
2. Media Invited to 2026 Crop Robotics Landscape Launch (wineindustryadvisor.com) — Based out of Davis, organizers are inviting media to a free September 16 Zoom webinar unveiling the 2026 Crop Robotics Landscape, a global map of companies building farm robots. The session will explore how growers, investors, and workforce leaders can overcome barriers to adopting these technologies, with California-focused experts likely of interest to Davis's agricultural and UC-connected community.
3. Yolo Community Foundation announces honorees for 2026 Philanthropy Awards (dailydemocrat.com) — Davis residents and organizations are prominently featured among this year's Yolo Philanthropy Awards honorees, with groups like Cool Davis, Davis Arts Center, Davis Farmers Market Alliance, and more being recognized. No. 18 Harvard Men's Water Polo Drops First Tournament Against Three Top Ranked Opponents (thecrimson.com) — UC Davis hosted the Aggie Classic in Davis, where the No. 6 Aggies capped the weekend with a 17-13 win over visiting No. 18 Harvard in men's water polo. The tournament brought several top-10 Northern California teams to town, giving local fans high-level play and showcasing UC Davis' strong early-season form despite Harvard's late push in the finale.
