Davis Area Cancer Organizations to Receive Proceeds from Team LIVESTRONG Challenge Davis
The city of Davis and its surrounding neighbors will receive a boost from the LIVESTRONG Foundation with a new initiative that will give donations raised from the ride back to the community.
AUSTIN, Texas – Feb. 21, 2013 – The city of Davis, Calif., and its surrounding neighbors will receive a boost from the LIVESTRONG Foundation following the Team LIVESTRONG Challenge in Davis on Sat., June 23, with a new initiative that will give 5 percent of donations raised from the ride back to the community. Recipients of this effort include the Sacramento Region Community Foundation, who will receive 5 percent of the first $1 million raised, and 50 cents of every dollar thereafter, to be distributed amongst cancer-related organizations in the area. The third annual Davis Challenge is designed to attract a wide-range of fitness levels with a multi-distance bike ride, including 15-25, 50-65, or 85-100-mile options.
“We saw this event as a timely opportunity to make a long-lasting impact in the community,” said LIVESTRONG Foundation Vice President of Development Nick Denby. “Davis has always been a great host to our Challenge event, and we are proud to work with them to empower those affected by cancer.”
The Team LIVESTRONG Challenge is the organization's popular three-part series in Team LIVESTRONG's roster of a dozen athletic events designed to raise funds and awareness for the fight against cancer. The Challenge inspires and empowers individuals, teams, families, friends and co-workers to unite in the fight against cancer. One hundred percent of participant and donor gifts to the Team LIVESTRONG Challenge series go directly to support cancer programs and initiatives. Since 1997, the Challenge events have raised more than $80 million. The money raised from the Team LIVESTRONG Challenge Davis will finance programs that help cancer survivors and their families navigate the financial, insurance and emotional hurdles that accompany a cancer diagnosis. The Challenge series will head to Philadelphia, Aug. 17-18, and will conclude its season in Austin on Oct. 20. For more information, visit www.TeamLIVESTRONG.org.
