BLOG: Teacher of the Month Honors Yolo County Teachers

Teachers in Yolo County are getting a little more recognition for all their hard work these days. Macaroni Kid is teaming up with sponsors to bring the community a “Teacher of the Month” promotion.

This school year Macaroni Kid is partnering with the following businesses:

The goal is to spotlight teachers from Yolo County schools, as well as local preschools and daycare centers.  

"If your child has a teacher that they look up to and that inspires them, it is my hope you will nominate them,” said Kali Slusser Publisher and Editor of Macaroni Kid Woodland- Davis. “As a teacher myself in addition to being married to one, I have tremendous respect for this noblest of professions. I know how hard teachers work - the extra hours, the concern for students, the dealings with parents ... it is not an easy job.  However, it is rewarding beyond belief! The chance to make a difference in a child's life makes it all worthwhile! it’s great that I can work with these businesses to give some attention to those teachers who deserve extra kudos!”

Parents can help their kids nominate their teachers. The first teacher of the month will be announced on Oct 31st in the Macaroni Kid weekly newsletter, and will continue throughout the school year, with a different teacher being recognized each month.  The winning teachers will receive gift certificates from the above sponsors and more sponsorships are being accepted.

Slusser, a Woodland mom of two, and a previous resident of Davis, launched Macaroni Kid Woodland-Davis in August 2011.  Currently there are nearly 500 families receiving the weekly newsletter and the website receives more than 12,000 page views each month. In addition to being the largest kid and family-friendly local events calendar in the area, Macaroni Kid offers informative articles on parenting, education, product reviews, crafts, recipes and so much more! Combine that with their large Facebook page followers, and Macaroni Kid has quickly grown into the place that keeps families “in the know” about our area’s kid-friendly events, venues and businesses.
