CA Sen. Bill Dodd To Host Fake News Educational Forum At UC Davis
Fake news and all it implies will kick off what promises to be a lively discussion with Sen. Dodd, expert panelists at UC Davis this month.

DAVIS, CA – With “fake news” catapulting into our vernacular since last November’s Election Day, California Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, will host a panel discussion this month to address media literacy and political propaganda.
The forum labeled “Fake News and Media Literacy in the Digital Age” is scheduled for 6 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Walter A. Buehler Alumni Center of University of California, Davis, in the Alpha Gamma Rho Room. Free parking is available.
Beyond the open house welcoming the general public, the goal of the event will focus on providing U.C. Davis students with critical knowledge for making informed decisions about what they read. Fake news has become one of the hottest topics discussed in the United States.

The panelists read like a “Who’s Who” of communications, academics and public policy gurus. Joining Dodd are Paul Gullixson of Sonoma State University; Mindy Romero of University of Southern California; Taryn Luna of the Sacramento Bee; Tessa Jolls of the Center for Media Literacy; and Garth Lewis of the Yolo County Office of Education.
“The rise of misleading news is deeply concerning, as it is the habit by some to dismiss real facts as fake news just because they don’t like them,” said Dodd, who authored Senate Bill 830 calling for media literacy education. The bill passed California Assembly and Senate and awaits Gov. Jerry Brown's signature.
