County Fire Caused By Improperly Installed Fencing: Cal Fire

The 90,288-acre County Fire in Yolo and Napa counties has destroyed at least 20 homes and other structures.

NAPA and YOLO COUNTIES, CA — The County Fire burning in Yolo and Napa counties was caused by an improperly installed electric livestock fence unit, Cal Fire law enforcement officers have determined. The responsible party was issued citation for burning the lands of another, Cal Fire Spokesman Will Powers said in a news release Wednesday.

The County Fire started the afternoon of June 30 in the Yolo County community of Guinda, east of Lake Berryessa. At least 20 homes and other structures have been destroyed in the blaze that as of Wednesday was 90,288 acres and 86-percent contained.

The responsible party was cited under California public resource code 4421, which states that "a person shall not set fire or cause fire to be set to any forest, brush, or other flammable material which is on any land that is not his own, or under his legal control, without the permission of the owner, lessee, or agent of the owner or lessee of the land."
