CREATEFEST

Createfest is a free arts festival with engaging activities for all ages.

Join the Pence Gallery’s Teens Take Charge program on Saturday, June 27 and help takeover the street at Createfest! From 5-8 pm, the south end of D Street will be transformed into an outdoor celebration of teen art and music.

Createfest is a FREE ARTS FESTIVAL with engaging activities for all ages. There will be live performances from musicians including: The Avocets, Nikki Nelson, Camila Ortiz, and Kill the Fascists, in addition to theatrical performances by Acme Theater. A Teen Maker’s Market will feature art made and sold by local teens and a FilmFest will showcase short films by teen filmmakers. Guests can participate in an array of fun-filled art activities inside and outside the Gallery. The event includes henna painting by Bodhi Henna, photos offered by Pinkshutter photobooths, yarn bombing, hooping, chalk art, button making, and more. Food will be offered for sale as well.

Teens Take Charge is made up of sixteen Davis teens that have a passion for all forms of art. Over the past four months, Teens Take Charge participants have been meeting weekly to develop this art-filled event and learn about the field of public art. Participant Jenna Meyer is excited “to see the community come together to celebrate art” at Createfest on June 27. Meyer adds, “In this program I have learned to work with others and to share my ideas because sometimes the stranger the idea, the better.”

The Teens Take Charge program is organized by Program Coordinator, Shoshana Zeldner, who works alongside teens as they plan this community art festival over several months and expand their own knowledge of public art. With guidance from Davis-based artist Carrie Ziser, the teens have created a mixed-media sculpture titled Self Reflection. Self Reflection will be unveiled at Createfest and installed in front of the Pence Gallery. Teens Take Charge is sponsored by a grant from the City of Davis Community Services.
