Crews Working 4-Alarm Fire Threatening Homes In Vacaville

The blaze was 50 percent contained at about 5:50 a.m. today.

Firefighters are working to contain a 4-alarm fire that began Saturday night and has already burned 300 acres in Vacaville.

At 9:32 p.m., firefighters responded to the fire, near Pena Abode Regional Park, fire officials said. When firefighters arrived on scene, the fire had only burned 5 to 10 acres, however, winds at 30 miles per hour gusting to over 40 miles per hour caused the fire to spread rapidly, according to fire officials.

Cal Fire and firefighters from Yolo and Contra Costa counties assisted Vacaville fire crews, according to fire officials. Just before 3 a.m. this morning, the fire had been 30 percent contained, according to the Vacaville Fire Department’s Twitter page.

The fire was 50 percent contained shortly at 5:30 a.m., according to the department.

Many neighborhoods in the area were under voluntary evacuations and fire crews closed California Drive, fire officials said.

California Drive was scheduled to reopen around 6 a.m. and all voluntary evacuations will also be lifted at that time, according to the Vacaville Fire Department’s Twitter page. Lagoon Valley Park will be closed today to all public access as fire crews continue to work to extinguish the fire and investigators try to determine a cause, fire officials said.
