"It is ethically inconsistent to pet baby pigs, and then consume their bodies as food - exactly what Davis' so-called 'Pig Day Celebration' is touting. Celebrating animal ag (the #1 cause of environmental degradation) is also a step backward for our environmentally enlightened community," said Lindsay Rubin of Vegans of Davis.
Questions for those participating in "Pig Day" include:

- * If you had to watch it, could you stand seeing the mother of those baby pigs slaughtered to become that mini sausage?
- * Is it ok to allow children to express their natural love for animals at a pig petting pen, just before feeding those very animals to them as food?
- * Did you know that even "local" or "humanely raised" animals are sent to the same slaughterhouses as all of the other animals?
- * Did you know that pigs are extremely smart, smarter than dogs, and can learn computer games?
- * Did you know that animal agriculture is THE #1 cause of environmental degradation and water waste? (cowspiracy.com).
"What's the deal, Davis? As a progressive, beautiful town, this event is a stark contradiction and a step backwards for our community, many of whom consider ourselves compassionate environmentalists," said Vegans of Davis.
