DAVIS IRON CHEF COMPETITION: CARLTON SENIOR LIVING VS BLACKPINE CATERING

Two local chefs face off in Iron Chef-style cooking competition.

Two local chefs will face-off in an Iron Chef-inspired competition in which they must create the tastiest fare centered around a mystery ingredient. The event will feature chefs Andrew Moret of Carlton Senior Living and AJ Webb from BlackPine Catering and Events, and will be held Wednesday, January 27, 2 p.m., at Carlton Senior Living in Davis. It is open to guests. It is a timed competition and the chefs have been alerted that the mystery ingredient will be a root vegetable. The chefs will have one hour to create their dishes followed by 15 minutes to present to the judges. Judges include a local chef, culinary blogger and a senior care administrator. A raffle with prizes for guests will be held while the judges votes are tallied.

Webb, who has been a chef for six years, specializes in cooking American comfort, classic French and Latin fusion food as well as using fresh local fruits and vegetables to make unique pairings.

Moret, who trained at the Culinary Institute of America, the Sichuan Higher Institute of Cuisine in China and Ideas in Food in San Francisco, has been the head chef at Carlton Senior Living in Davis since early 2014 where he has been creating the menu for the community’s daily dining as well as themed dishes for special events held at the community.
