Davis resident wins national title at Summer North American Bridge Championships
Chip Martel of Davis, Calif., claimed victory in the Spingold Master Knockout Teams event at the Summer North American Bridge Championships.

Chip Martel of Davis, Calif., claimed victory in the Spingold Master Knockout Teams event at the Summer North American Bridge Championships (NABCs), one of the 18 championship-level events held in Washington, D.C., from July 20 to 30.
This is Martel’s 31st first-place NABC title. Members of the team, pictured left to right, included Martel, Brad Moss of Denver, Colo., Joe Grue, team captain Martin Fleisher, Sabine Auken, Roy Welland with ACBL president Ken Monzino presenting the team with the Spingold trophy replica.
The NABCs are held three times a year across the U.S. and Canada to bring together players of all skill levels, from beginner to advanced, with opportunities for everyone to play daily from 9 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. The 2016 Fall NABCs will be held in Orlando, Fla., from Nov. 24 to Dec. 4.
