Emily Griswold is Recipient of Third Annual Jay Gerber Young Community Leader Award

Community is invited to Third Annual Jay Gerber Young Community Leader Award honoring Emily Griswold.

On the evening of April 8, the Davis Sunrise Rotary Club will honor Emily Griswold at its third annual Jay Gerber Young Community Leader Award Ceremony. The event will take place from 5:30-7 p.m. at the US Bicycling Hall of Fame. Tickets are $25 at the door and hors d’oeuvres from Buckhorn as well as refreshments will be provided. All in the community are invited to attend.

In 2014, the Davis Sunrise Rotary Club developed the award to honor the life and spirit of Jay Gerber. A long-time Davis resident and former owner of Cable Car Wash, Gerber made the Davis community a better place through numerous volunteer and public service endeavors and is remembered for his giving heart and uncanny ability to bring people together.

Emily Griswold is the Director of the UC Davis GATEways Horticulture and Teaching Gardens for the UC Davis Arboretum and Public Gardens. In this role, Emily has brought together large numbers of community volunteers to help create the design of the garden area by the Davis Commons shopping center that connects to the UC Davis Arboretum. Griswold uses her professional expertise for an expansive list of volunteer efforts that quite literally make Davis a more beautiful place. Among these efforts is her long-time leadership as Chair of the Davis Central Park Gardens Steering Committee, co-founding a Creative Action team for the Davis Manor neighborhood, which resulted in a Civic Arts Grant for a community designed mural. Additionally, her service and expertise on the City of Davis’ Recreation and Parks Commission is an asset to the community. “I'm so grateful to Sunrise Rotary for offering this award and deeply honored to be in the company of Bill Habicht and Stacie Frerichs as an awardee,” stated Griswold.
