C O N C E P T S . O F . T H E . C O R E have expanded and drifted as the idea of “core strength” has been adopted and adapted by different fitness and wellness modalities. When the core is described as “the abdomen” or “the abdomen, back, and pelvis” we lose the true meaning of core as something inside. Unfortunately, in most regular classes, there simply isn’t time to clarify, refine, and identify the components of the core, much less how they work (or stop working) together. This is your chance!
This is a 2-part workshop that combines discussion of anatomy with experiential work to take your awareness inside yourself, and help you harness your deepest layers of strength and stability without becoming rigid and held.
P E L V I C F L O O R / D E E P A B D O M E N will focus on finding the subtleties of the pelvic floor muscles to enhance pelvic and low back stability, and create a strong, yet supple central support system.
D I A P H R A G M / F A C I L I T A T I N G . B R E A T H will explore the mechanics of breathing, and the patterns of tension and holding that will inhibit our ability to breath fully, and to access our core effectively in daily life and activities.
Each workshop will stand alone, but taking both will allow you to appreciate, intellectually and physically, the interplay of the pelvic and respiratory diaphragms, and how your own patterns of activity and life affect them.
These workshops are co-sponsored by The Bo Tree and Balance Point Pilates Studio. The Pelvic Floor workshop will be held at Balance Point Studio, and the Diaphragm workshop will be held at The Bo Tree.
